Registered Dietitians

Shawna Hunt B.Sc., RD Ms. Shawna Hunt B.Sc., RD graduated from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax with a degree in Applied Human Nutrition. She has experience in both community and hospital based nutrition and while at University was integral in the development of Student Nutrition Services – a non-profit organization that offered students an opportunity to develop nutrition counseling techniques and skills. A member of the Dietitians of Canada and the College of Dietitians of Ontario Shawna is also a former sous and personal chef and she therefore adds to BMI the extraordinary and exciting combination of a dietitian with professional cooking skills. Herself a gifted athlete, Shawna competes provincially in triathlons and is currently working towards her first Ironman competition. She has also taken her interest in fitness and has combined it with her knowledge of dietetics in counseling and analyzing the diets of high performance athletes. Shawna, a highly compassionate and bright dietitian, brings to BMI a rare and exceedingly valuable approach to dietary counseling, one that relies on empathy, warmth, flexibility and understanding.

Candace Weaver, RD

Ms. Candace Weaver MSc, RD graduated from Mount Saint Vincent University with a Masters degree in Applied Human Nutrition. She is passionate about all areas of nutrition, and has worked in a variety of community and clinical settings. She has also taught University level nutrition classes, has given seminars to varsity athletes on a variety of sports nutrition topics, as well as collaborated with coaches on the development of sports nutrition materials to their athletes.

A personal interest in health and fitness, combined with a desire for a challenge, led Candace to completing several half marathons, and a marathon to date. The combination of her personal and professional experience enables Candace to bring understanding, compassion, and enthusiasm to her work as a registered dietitian at BMI.
