Ms. Shawna Hunt B.Sc., RD graduated from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax with a degree in Applied Human Nutrition. She has experience in both community and hospital based nutrition and while at University was integral in the development of Student Nutrition Services – a non-profit organization that offered students an opportunity to develop nutrition counseling techniques and skills. A member of the Dietitians of Canada and the College of Dietitians of Ontario Shawna is also a former sous and personal chef and she therefore adds to BMI the extraordinary and exciting combination of a dietitian with professional cooking skills. Herself a gifted athlete, Shawna competes provincially in triathlons and is currently working towards her first Ironman competition. She has also taken her interest in fitness and has combined it with her knowledge of dietetics in counseling and analyzing the diets of high performance athletes. Shawna, a highly compassionate and bright dietitian, brings to BMI a rare and exceedingly valuable approach to dietary counseling, one that relies on empathy, warmth, flexibility and understanding.

Ms. Joanne Kurtz BSc, RD graduated from the University of Western Ontario in London with a degree in Foods and Nutrition. She also holds a BSc from McMaster University in Psychology. Joanne is passionate about all areas of nutrition and has married her love of nutrition with her own advocacy interests by organizing and facilitating community kitchens. Joanne believes in walking the talk and aside from ensuring nutrition is an important part of her own life she’s also ensured that fitness be integral to her lifestyle. Growing up Joanne was a competitive swimmer and since she’s transitioned to running and triathlon. With on marathon under her belt she hopes to one day qualify for the Boston Marathon.
