Should You Start Eating Protein Bars?

There is a lot of curiosity about protein bars and whether or not they are healthy and worthwhile. ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ญ๐ž๐ข๐ง is an important ๐‘š๐‘Ž๐‘๐‘Ÿ๐‘œ๐‘›๐‘ข๐‘ก๐‘Ÿ๐‘–๐‘’๐‘›๐‘ก that we need to maintain muscle mass, vital organs and tissues and help us stay full after meals and snacks. For some, it is more difficult to get substantial amount of protein in their diet. This could be due to dietary restrictions/preferences, timing, economic status, and more!

Protein bars can be a quick and easy way to help you meet your personal protein goals for the day, however donโ€™t go running to pick up a case just yet!

It is important to read the nutrition facts label of these products as there are some on the market that are packed full of sugar. Those that are sweetened with artificial sugars or sugar alcohols may result in some unpleasant digestive symptoms. These products can also be expensive (roughly $2-4 per bar) and won't provide a complete nutrient profile compared to a balanced meal.

๐๐จ๐ญ๐ญ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ž: Protein bars that are low in sugar can be a great โ€œemergencyโ€ snack or convenient meal when on the go but try to aim for whole food sources of protein (ex. meat, fish, nuts, legumes, tofu, eggs, cheese, etc.) more often to receive a variety of beneficial nutrients.
