Three Ways to Cut Back on Sodium

One quick way to determine if a food is high or low in sodium is to check the % Daily Value (DV) column. As a general rule, foods with a DV of 5% or less are considered low in sodium. Those with a DV of 15% or more are considered high in sodium.

𝟐. π‚π‘πžπœπ€ π“π‘πž 𝐈𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬.  
Ingredients are listed in order of weight, starting with the ingredients that weigh the most.  Ingredients that indicate a source of sodium include: salt, sodium chloride, baking soda, baking powder, sodium nitrate, sodium benzoate and monosodium glutamate.

Take advantage of seasonings, herbs and spices that pack a hefty flavour punch without the salt. When cooking, try using cumin, cayenne, thyme, basil or oregano. Garlic, onions, lemon juice and vinegar are also fantastic options for boosting flavour.
