When it comes to health, we often focus on food and exercise. Unfortunately, we tend to dismiss the importance of sleep. Lack of shut eye can impact much more than just our daily energy levels.

1.       Aim for consistent times that you go to bed and wake up at. Having completely different schedules on the weekend can throw you off during the week.
2.       Reduce the amount of light in your bedroom. Your body will clue in that it is time to rest when it is dark.
3.       Limit noise as much as possible or consider using a machine for white noise to help you fall asleep.
4.       Minimize anything that may cause stress before bed. Things like TV shows/movies, work, computer use, or even stressful conversations can prolong/disrupt sleep.
5.       We tend to sleep best within a certain temperature range. Try setting your room thermostat for somewhere between 18-22 C.
6.       If you’re a caffeine lover, limit your intake as much as possible as you get closer to bed time. This includes coffee, tea and soda/pop.
7.       If you consume a large amount of food or foods high in sugar right before jumping into bed, your body may prioritize digestion over sleep.

Making sleep a priority is essential to improved health. Try these tips and don’t let the bed bugs bite!
